Swim England National County Team Championships

County Team Championship round-up!

Heading up to Sheffield with 26 of our finest and fastest swimmers from Gloucestershire we were off to do some early-season racing at Ponds Forge. Swimmers had not really raced since summer and for some, it was their first big competition up North. Travelling up on Saturday we had a team meal and also a quiz that brought the team together and we were ready for an early start and ready to race as one team.

The team were great on the day with face paint on every team member and cheering loud for the opening ceremony with our two team captains representing the County (Jake and Mae). The racing started and we were on our way with some super fast swims, some early wins and personal bests. Massive thanks to our two team managers for the day, Emma and Jeremy, who organised the team so Craig and I could concentrate on the racing.

The relay events were a major highlight for me and our swimmers. In only a matter of hours, the four swimmers that were behind the blocks had gelled as a team, and all the other swimmers supported the teams and cheered for the duration of the races.

We walked away with a well-earned 9th place in Division 2 of the competition. I believe we could secure a promotion finish in the future years as the swimmer depth and standard across the County improves. A massive well done to all swimmers and to all the parents, coaches and support staff. Could not have done it without you!
